The Fulton J. Communiqué
June 2010
From the Chaplain's Desk
I sit here, relaxing for a change – on Sunday evening. And it’s Pentecost Sunday, the 50th day of Easter, the anniversary of the beginnings of our Church. It is the time when Jesus breathed his breath onto the apostles, empowering them with their authority to carry on the Traditions of the Church. This day is our chance to celebrate and remember the beginning of something new – something so radically new that it should move us from our very foundations.
If the Holy Spirit is truly with us, and it is, and if we believe in the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and we do, then we are coming into newness, just as Sunday represents for us not only the last day, a day of rest, but also the new day of each week.
And so as we look forward to this newness, let us all accept in our hearts that we are all brothers who love and support each other to the end. The Holy Spirit IS with us, which means that God is accessible to us and that he is reaching out to us. But just as the Gospel reading tells us, we must be forgiving – forgiving of others as we forgive ourselves. We have no choice here, guys.
Jesus showed the disciples the wounds in his hands and side to give them proof because he felt they would not really hear his words. We don’t have that option, but we do have the wisdom fro 2,000 years of believing, praying saints. We only need to listen to them, to pray often, and to be humble, forgiving servants of Christ.
I pray we will let go of the past, bring in the new with open enthusiasm just as children of Christ would. We must be thankful to the leadership our Council has had in the past and at the same tie, pray for our new leadership as they take the helm. But most importantly, we must be open and welcoming to all, willing to embrace every individual in our Council, with no exceptions. This is who we are.
May God’s Peace be Yours,
Reverend Mr. Todd Smith

Grand Knight?s Report
Brothers and Sheens of 7612
This has been a very difficult year for our council, but we have seen it through. I tried to serve it well, just as many others have before me. We, as a council, had many triumphs and a few setbacks. I would like to thank all of those that helped make this year as successful as it was. I know it required a lot of heroic effort, mostly behind the scenes. I wish the incoming administration the best of luck in the coming year. Please give them your full support as we strive to serve the Lord, one another, and the community as brothers and sisters in Christ.
May the Merciful Jesus bless each and every one of you!
My Jesus, I Trust in You,
Greg Lynch, Grand Knight

C.U.F.P., Inc. Home Corporation of Council 7612
The Home corporation holds the property for the council because the council can not own property. We are charged with maintaining the home and the property so that the council has a place to meet. We are also the board that makes the decisions about the property. Every member of the council is also a member of the home corporation. Last year the Home corporation board of directors looked very closely at the budget. The Home Corp. pays all of the utilities, insurance and up keep of the property just as you do with your own home. We were able to cut the amount of rent that the council needs to pay to the home corp. to pay for these expenses. For many years the rent has been set at $1200 a month to pay for the all of these expenses. With a lot of hard work by your current board of directors we were able to cut the rent to the council to $300 a month. We have done this by renting the building, working on our own fund raisers and cutting out the fat and waste in the budget. The board of directors is VERY pleased to inform the council members that we are not increasing the rent for the next fraternal year! With that said the Home corp. will be working a baseball game on June 26th at 4:05. If you can help the home corp. raise money please contact brother Ray Miles and tell him you are a trooper.
We would also like to congratulate Harold Bernadzikowski for his election to the council Warden position. With his election it leaves a vacancy in the Home Corporation board of directors. The board will fill this position at our June 14th meeting. If you are interested in serving on the board till 2012, the remainder of Harold's 3 year term, please call or email myself and let me know you want to be added to the list.
As you may know, the Council and the Home Corp have recently experienced challenges that are testing our solidarity as Brother Knights. Recently, the Home was unexpectedly inspected 3 separate times by the Baltimore County Government for alleged violations. I am pleased to inform you that your Home passed all 3 inspections without problem.
However, we have determined that in order to maintain a liquor bar in the Home, we must be properly licensed. As a result, all liquor has been removed from the bar until such time as 1) the Home Corp Board of Directors determines the appropriateness of a liquor bar operation in the Home, and if the Board decides to operate a liquor bar, then 2) the Home Corp receives a liquor license.
The Home Corp Board of Directors and I apologize for this inconvenience and ask your continued patience as we work together in Brotherhood to better serve our Council and our Council Family.
If you have any questions, please contact Vice President Otto Greul, Treasurer Dave Smith, Secretary Ray Miles, or myself for information.
Again, thank you for your patience and understanding.
The Home corp. is also going to make a list of approved bar tenders for the council home. We are not looking solely for individuals that can mix drinks but to pour sodas and beer. We will only be allowing approved members to be behind the bar, so if you would like to tend bar during a meeting or event please email me your wish and we will put you on the list. You will have to be trained to recognize when someone has had too much to drink as required by the liquor board.

Hello Ladies,
I travelled to Ocean City for the Knights of Columbus annual convention on May 14 - May 16. YOUR ladies auxiliary took first place as the number one auxiliary in the state of Maryland. Congratulations! Of course I already knew we had that, but now everyone in the state knows it, again. If you recall, this is our second year in a row we have won this prestigious award. Let's go for the trifecta in 2011!
At our May meeting, we held our elections. Say hello to your new officers:

• Vice President- Barbara Rooney
• Secretary- Cherie Hundertmark
• Treasurer- Lee Hoyas
These ladies will be installed into office in July/August and we have the details out as soon as we have them from the Knights.
On June 12th the council will hold their annual Awards Ceremony. You should have already received the invitations by mail. Please plan on attending this ceremony as I will be announcing our Lady of the Year.
Our June 16th meeting will be a celebration of all our accomplishments this year and a chance to meet your new officers. Please plan on attending. Your current officer's will be providing the refreshments and we will have games and prizes. We will not be meeting as a group in July and August, due to family vacations BUT the Knight's socials will be back in full swing. Squires Activities
Honorable Knights,
Semi-annual Krispy Kreme fundraiser was a success in spite of an ominous weather forecast. The rain finished before the first mass and the Circle enjoyed another sellout. Thanks to those Knights among the parishioners who supported us. The Squires gathered on Saturday May 8th and prepared 1200 Marigolds for distribution by the Knights at all Mother’s Day masses. A new slate of officers will be elected at our final meeting in early June.

Pro-Life Report
Another State Takes up the Abortion issue
On April 27th the Oklahoma Legislature Overrode the Governor’s veto on two abortion measures:
One of the bills requires women to undergo an ultrasound and listen to a detailed description of the fetus before getting an abortion. The other measure is an attempt to keep pregnant women from discriminating against fetuses with disabilities. Both measures will be challenged at the courts.
Sarah Palin’s speech of Life
On the morning of May 14th at the Susan B. Anthony List Celebration of Life breakfast, Sarah Palin talked openly about her experience with her son Trig, who has Down’s syndrome.
While she had previously believed that "God will never give me something I cannot handle," she said, she was left thinking, "I don't think I can handle this. This wasn't part of my life's plan."
Yet once Trig was born, Palin said, she understood that "God does know what he's doing."
"And what seemed like it would be such a challenge has turned into our greatest blessing," Palin said, telling her audience he was "the best thing to ever happen" to her and her family.
It is nice to hear someone talk so openly about being pro-life and proclaiming “GOD has a plan” we must just have faith in him.
Pro-Life Movie coming soon or maybe not
Have you heard of the movie Blood Money? Blood Money is a documentary film that exposes the truth behind the Abortion Industry from the Pro Life perspective. This film will examine the history of abortion in America, from the inception of Planned Parenthood and the profitability of abortion clinics, to Roe v. Wade, to the denial of when life begins, to the fight to save the lives of innocent babies, and the devastating effects it has had on the women who have had them.

Thoughts on the Future…….
After being voted the Grand Knight for our Council, I am overwhelmed by everybody’s vote of confidence for me.
Yet, I am excited and cannot wait for the year to start! Our year actually starts in June with the Car raffle sales. And I know you, as well, as I want to get off to a great start. We had a good year last year, but Brother Bill Rooney is the Chairman for this year and he has told me that he is so excited that he has set the bar higher than ever before – 10,000 tickets! I know we can do it and I cannot wait until the Sykesville Carnival to sell the tickets – because I know we will get a winner from South Carroll this year!!! The carnival starts on Monday June 21st and ends on Saturday June 26th. Bill will have signup sheets to volunteer to sell tickets at the June Business meeting. So, make sure you sign up and get your preferred date.
We will start out July with the regular Business meeting on July 14th and July 28th is the first social date to place on your calendar. It is going to be pot luck with make your own ice cream sundaes for dessert!! Can you believe that? Then we will have Bingo for all to play!!
We will also have the installation of officers scheduled for July 21st.
I know I am excited for the New Year, I hope you are as well! We will have a great year with all of your help and support,
Joe Eagle
Report from the Beach!!!
The Fulton J. Sheen Council was recognized as the Council that sold the most car raffle tickets for 2009. I was very proud to receive the award with our Grand Knight Greg Lynch. Our Council sold more than any other Council in the State of Maryland! I am most proud of the fact that all money raised by the car raffle program goes directly to Charity - both for the State as well as our Council. It was only through everybody’s hard work that we were successful! Thank you brother Knights and a very special thank you to all of the Sheen’s that helped sell the raffle tickets! Brother Bill Rooney is the Chairman for this year and he has told me that he is so excited that he has set the bar higher than ever before – 10,000 tickets! I know we can do it and I cannot wait until the Sykesville Carnival to sell the tickets – because I know we will get a winner from South Carroll this year!!!
Every year, our Council takes the lead to manage and operate a hospitality room at the Maryland State Convention. As the lead Council with District 21, we work with the other Councils within the District to staff & operate a memorable hospitality room. Well, Congratulations are in order! The District 21 Hospitality room was judged to be the very best at this year’s Maryland State convention. The theme for the Hospitality room was ‘Take Me Out to the Ball Game!’ We certainly hit a homerun! The key to the success of the hospitality room was the great deal of help and assistance from the Councils within the District. From the very beginning, the unyielding support and enthusiasm took a simple idea and developed into a full scale concept that nobody could beat! The room was welcoming, fun and full of good food and drink for all!
As the chairman for the Hospitality room, all I can say is thank you for all of the help and support.
Joe Eagle
